This Privacy Policy explains how MangoStudy ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects the personal information of our users, including students and educators ("you" or "your"). By using our services, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Definitions
"MangoStudy" means any website, mobile application, and other online services under MangoStudy's control.
"Personal Information" means information that alone or when in combination with other information may be used to readily identify, contact, or locate you, such as: name, address, email address, or phone number, as well as payment information. We do not consider Personal Information to include information that has been anonymized so that it does not allow a third party to easily identify a specific individual. We collect, retain and process Personal Information about Users (as defined below) in order to improve MangoStudy and for the other purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
"User" means a person who uses services offered by MangoStudy. Users may be students who purchase and use MangoStudy directly, or who have been provided access to MangoStudy by one of our University or Healthcare Customers (as defined below).
"University or Healthcare Customer" means a customer who is an educational institution or university or represents a hospital, clinic, or other healthcare provider and who purchases and uses services offered by MangoStudy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide and improve our educational services. The types of personal information we may collect include:
Account and Profile Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, password, and profile picture. For educators, we may also collect school or institution information.
Payment Information: If you make a purchase, we use a third-party payment processor to handle your payment information. We do not store your full credit card details.
Location Information from Your Mobile Device. We may collect and store your location information if you enable your mobile device to send it to us. Collection of this information can help improve service delivery in specific regions.
Social Sign-On. We collect Personal Information from the social media website when you use your social media credentials to log into MangoStudy or connect your MangoStudy account to the social media website account. For example, when you log in with your Meta credentials, we may collect the Personal Information you have made publicly available in Facebook, such as your name and profile picture. We may also obtain other information with your permission, such as your Birthday, Groups, Institutional Affiliation, Graduation Year, Friend List, and Current City. You may also sign into your social media account to find friends who also use MangoStudy.
Educational Content and Activity: We collect information about your use of our platform, such as courses you enroll in, quizzes you take, lessons you complete, and your performance and progress. This includes content you submit, like feedback and responses.
Cookies, Automatic Data Collection, and Related Technologies. MangoStudy collects and stores information that is generated automatically as you use it, including your preferences and anonymous usage statistics. When you visit MangoStudy, we and our third-party service providers receive and record information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, device type, browser type, operating system, and a record of the pages you visit from cookies and similar technology. Cookies are small text files placed in visitors' computer browsers to store their preferences. Most browsers allow you to block and delete cookies. However, if you do that, MangoStudy may not work properly.
Communications: We may collect information from your communications with us, such as customer support inquiries or feedback you provide.

We use your information to:

We store your Personal Information for as long as is necessary to provide MangoStudy to you and as long as you have an account on MangoStudy.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. Our services are not intended for children under the age of 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 16, we will take steps to delete that information.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access and Correction: You can access and update your account information directly in your profile settings. You can also request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Data Deletion ("Right to Be Forgotten"): You can request that we delete your personal information. Please note that we may need to retain certain information for legal or business purposes.

FERPA Compliance
If you are a student or educator accessing our services through a U.S. school or educational institution, the use of your data may be governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Under this law, we act as a "school official" and an extension of your educational institution. We only use your education records to provide and improve our educational services, as specified in our contract with your school. We do not use this information for any other purpose, such as marketing or targeted advertising, and we do not disclose it to third parties unless specifically authorized by law or your school. The educational institution remains responsible for its overall FERPA compliance and retains full control over student data.
California Law SB 27 Compliance
California residents have the right to receive, once a year, information about third parties with whom we have shared information about you for their marketing purposes during the previous calendar year, and a description of the categories of personal information shared. To make such a request, please send an email to support@mangostudy.org and please include the phrase "California Privacy Request" in the subject line, and provide us with your name and email address. We will respond to you within thirty days of receiving such a request.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Compliance
Special notice to residents of the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. We will only process your personal data when we have a valid legal basis to do so under GDPR. The legal bases we rely on include:
- Contractual Necessity: Processing is necessary to perform a contract with you, such as providing access to courses and educational materials.
- Legitimate Interests: Processing is necessary for our legitimate interests, provided these interests do not override your fundamental rights and freedoms. Our legitimate interests include improving and securing our services, and conducting business analytics.
